THDA is administering a COVID-19 Rent Relief program for the majority of Tennessee including Blount County. Under guidance from the US Treasury, funds designated as part of the COVID-19 Rent Relief Act of 2020 will support renters who are or have been struggling to pay rent, utilities, or other home energy costs due to loss of wages/income as a result of the pandemic.

THDA's Rent Relief Call Center is now LIVE and available to help individuals with questions regarding the program, eligibility, needed documentation, etc.

BROADWAY TOWERS AND MARYVILLE TOWERS BUILDINGS REMAIN LOCKED.  VISITORS, VENDORS AND CARE GIVERS MUST BE ADMITTED INTO THE BUILDING ONLY BY THE RESIDENT THEY ARE SEEING.   DO NOT ENTER THE BUILDINGS IF YOU ARE SICK OR HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO SOMEONE WHO IS SICK.

MARYVILLE HOUSING AUTHORITY RESIDENTS AND SECTION EIGHT PARTICIPANTS WHO HAVE A CHANGE IN WAGES OR OTHER INCOME SHOULD CONTACT THEIR CASE WORKER IMMEDIATELY.  LOSS OF INCOME WILL RESULT IN DECREASED RENT FOR THE FOLLOWING MONTH - ADDED INCOME WILL GO INTO EFFECT APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS AFTER THE DATE THE INCOME WAS ADDED. 

On July 2, 2020, HUD published PIH Notice 2020-13, Rev. 1 which extends available waivers published in  PIH Notice 2020-05 that contains COVID-19 Statutory and Regulatory Waivers for the Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Programs.  These waivers provide administrative flexibility and relief to public housing agencies. Maryville Housing Authority has adopted several of these waivers that will provide administrative relief and allow for alternative approaches, such as how income and expenses are being verified. A notice of the waivers and alternative requirements adopted by Maryville Housing Authority Public Housing Programs can be found here, and for the Housing Choice Voucher Program here. While the waivers are adopted as alternative methods, Maryville Housing will operate under normal regulations whenever possible.  We continue to collect rent, recertify residents annually and perform interim recertifications if there are changes to a residents income or expenses, perform inspections and work orders while taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

In addition, HUD published the Tenant Flyer on the Eviction Moratorium that contains information regarding evictions and changes in income.

To all residents of Broadway Towers and Maryville Towers

Because we are concerned for your health:

Beginning Tuesday evening March, 17 2020 the exterior doors will remain locked even during daytime hours to limit the people who go in and out of the buildings.  This policy will remain in effect until further notice.  As of November 9, 2020 Family and Friends as well as care givers may be admitted in the building by the residents of Broadway Towers and Maryville Towers as long as masks are worn by all adults and school age children.  Visitors must go straight to the resident's apartment and will not be allowed to gather in common areas of the building during their visit.  Residents are not to open the exterior doors for anyone other than their own guest. Emergency personnel such as police, fire and ambulance will be able to gain entry to the building if they are called. Care givers for those who are very frail or bed ridden should stop by the office and speak with the building manager regarding entry into the building.  At this time the Meals on Wheels will continue to be delivered.  Remember to take your key with you if you leave the building.

Because the high-rise apartments are strictly for persons who are 62 and older or are handicapped or disabled most if not all of the residents fall into the highest risk for serious health issues if infected with the flu or Virus.  We have already taken measures to avoid or limit physical contact and practice social distancing as recommended by the CDC, HUD and local governments by limiting events or meetings and limiting the seating in the common areas.  Rent payments as well as any other documentation can be dropped in the drop box located at the office.

We will still be closely monitoring who enters the building.  

Also, we hope everyone will follow our strong recommendation and continue to limit the number of visitors to Broadway Towers and Maryville Towers to prevent and/or delay the spread of disease.  Visitors and vendors must wear a face covering at all times. Please consider the health of our frail residents.

Residents - When in the building stay in your own apartment as much as possible. Exercise is important.  Go for a walk outdoors whenever possible while maintaining social distancing.

Thank you for your co-operation.  This is a temporary disruption.  Hopefully everything can return to normal soon. 

 

  • Stay in your apartment if you feel unwell, have a fever or cough. 

  • Keep your hands washed. Wash your clothing and pets more frequently. 

  • Don’t touch your face, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Cover your face with a mask, scarf or other covering when outside of your apartment.

  •  Only two persons in the elevator at one time.

  •  Stay at least 6 feet away from other people.  No handshakes or hugs but a smile and hello are nice.


Effective 5/26/2020

After careful consideration of the regulation changes, cost, the loss of grant funding and other implications of giving up our identity as a public housing authority MHA has decided that it is not in the best interest of MHA to convert to the RAD program.  Therefore, MHA has rescinded it’s application for RAD funding.   We will continue our operations as a public housing authority.
